Development Squads – 2021
COVID UPDATE 19 AUGUST:
Apologies but due to the escalating Covid Pandemic, the SMNE Development Squads have been CANCELLED. We will contact you if we find we are able to reschedule this year. Refunds will be processed over the next week, thank you for your patience.
Please keep an eye on your emails (especially spam folders) for all updates.
As you are aware the world is going through some very challenging and confusing times with the Covid-19 Pandemic and we were unable to hold any development activities in 2020. However, they’re back for 2021!
This year we will be undertaking 5 squads (A through E).
- Squads A through D will attend a clinic focused on swimming faster freestyle, with James Magnussen
- The E squad swimmers will attend part of the D squad clinic and then participate in a separate session matching their skill level, led by a Senior MNE coach.
- An additional clinic focusing on skills for starts, turns and technique for all 3 form strokes will be held for the A and B Squad.
Numbers for each squad are strictly limited.
The health and wellbeing of our swimmers, volunteers, officials, coaches and spectators will always be paramount. We ask for your support in our efforts to prevent COVID-19 and be vigilant in your personal hygiene, social distancing and avoid attending our activities if unwell.
SMNE is dedicated to recognising and rewarding dedicated young swimmers in our area and therefore heavily subsidizes Development activities. Our Development Squad activities allow swimmers with a range of abilities from within our Area the chance to further their skills and knowledge of swimming, whilst making new friends and receiving advice from a variety of coaches and professionals in their field.
Squads in 2021
MNE Swimmers and Coaches should self assess the correct squad for each swimmer according to the selection criteria.
SMNE has 5 squads based on age and ability. The criteria for each squad is defined below. All Swimmers must hold current financial Primary Club membership with a Metro North East Club. Swimmers who don’t meet this criteria will be removed without a refund. The only exception to this rule are the E Squad 9&Under swimmers who are IN THIS AREA but have not yet joined a Club WITHIN THIS AREA.
